Dip-dye has been big news for some time now. The list of celebs to have sported the look is pretty much endless. Alexa Chung, Drew Barrymore, Rachel Bilson, and runway goddess Gisele Bundchen to name just a few.
As you’d expect from the name, dip dying is all about using contrasting tones on the hair to give the impression that only the ends have been dipped in colour.
By and large most people work it with darker roots and lighter tips, but not everyone. Gwyneth Paltrow’s flirtation with the trend showed how darker ends can work equally well, and a whole load of other celebs have taken it a step further with rainbow tips, including Amber Le Bon, Kate Bosworth and Jamie King.
The beauty of the dip-dye trend is its versatility – whether you fancy natural grads to give a subtle lift or candy coloured tips that pack a punch, you can make it work. And it’s pretty much flattering on anyone, whatever length of hair or colour you have.
At Kaizo we’re firm believers in the fact that sharing knowledge and educating others makes you a better hairdresser. That’s why our talented stylist Paolo gave 20 final year Hairdressing Students a demonstration in the salon last week to show them how to achieve a flawless dip-dye. The students had travelled all the way from Italy to hone their hairdressing skills and the session was part of an ongoing relationship we have with the School.
With many years of industry experience behind her, Kaizo co-founder Yuka was also on hand to share some of her knowledge on hair trends, salon skills and career possibilities.
Dip-dye has proved itself a firm favourite both on and off the runway and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. So if you haven’t already, it’s about time you got involved in the dip-dye action!
